Updates
Here we post updates about the site that are not related to arcade repair but still play a role in site design and content.
5/25/2011 – Thanks to a suggestion from our web hosting company, we have now upgraded to WordPress 3.1.2. The plugins have also been updated to make sure we have compatibility with the new version. We have done some preliminary testing and everything seems to be working so far. If you experience any problems with the site, please send them to questions@arcaderepairtips.com.
8/22/2010 – The site is now officially running on the WordPress 3.0.1 platform. We have also updated the plugins that we use to match the new version. We have done some preliminary testing and everything seems to be working so far. If you experience any problems with the site, please send them to questions@arcaderepairtips.com.
7/15/2010 – In another attempt to clean up the site, we have now removed the social bookmarking (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) links from the posts on the main page. You can still access these links if you click the post link and scroll down to the bottom. If you have any questions about this or arcade repair in general, please send them to questions@arcaderepairtips.com.
7/12/2010 – We have been using the Kontera links for about 4 months and have been disappointed in the return so we are discontinuing them. You should no longer see the double underline links when you are browsing the site. This should also help unclutter the page for any new visitors to the site. If you have any questions about this or arcade repair in general, please send them to questions@arcaderepairtips.com.
6/21/2010 – You might have noticed that we have added a welcome section to the home page. This is to help those new to the site become acquainted with it. If you have any feedback about our new welcome section or any arcade related questions, please send them to questions@arcaderepairtips.com.
5/11/2010 – If you are reading this update then we have successfully moved the site to our new server. This server should provide us with faster access times and better stability. Hopefully this will get rid of the random SQL errors and disconnects we were getting before. Please send your site feedback along with any arcade related questions to questions@arcaderepairtips.com.
3/10/2010 – If you are reading some of the posts on the site, you might have noticed that we have added Kontera links. These links are indicated by a double line under them. We’re going to try this out for a while and see if it yields better results than the Google Adsense ads. If it does, we might do a rework of the ads on the site. Please send any feedback or arcade related questions to questions@arcaderepairtips.com.
1/27/2009 – You might have noticed that we have added a top navigation link bar to the site to make it easier to get to some of the pages that were initially located on the bottom navigation link bar. We are especially excited about the new affiliates page which gives us the opportunity to show you what products and services we use to keep the site up and running. Also, if you have a smart phone you might want to check out the changes to our mobile site. Great stuff! Please check out these new features and send your feedback or arcade related questions to questions@arcaderepairtips.com.
1/19/2009 – We just finished updating all of the plugins and upgrading the site to WordPress 2.9.1. We had a couple of issues with our podcasting plugin but I think I’ve got them resolved now so everything should be back to somewhat normal. Please let us know if you are experiencing problems with the site or if you have any arcade related questions by contacting us at questions@arcaderepairtips.com.
12/15/2009 – Made some changes to the Online Store page to make it more viewable on the mobile platforms (iPhone, Blackberry Storm, Android, etc.). Also, we still plan on recording a podcast this week so get those questions in!
12/6/2009 – Well it has been about a month since my last update so I thought I better let you guys know what’s going on especially since we’ve been really hard at work!
- Tim and I were finally able to get with Michael and shoot some content and I must say this is probably the best batch of videos we’ve ever done! Lots of great monitor information will be coming your way in the following months.
- We did our first Q&A podcast! Thank you for all of the positive feedback! We plan on doing a podcast fairly frequently as we feel it allows us to better answer your questions. Also, look forward to some special guests in the future! Stay Tuned!
- We set up an online store to sell our Volume One DVD just in time for Christmas! It contains all of our standard def videos plus some great quick tips and bloopers. Check it out at http://www.arcaderepairtips.com/store/
- We’ve also launched official Facebook and Twitter pages for our site so if you would like to send in questions that way you can. It will also keep you up-to-date as to what’s being posted on the site.
Whew! Talk about being busy! Watch for more changes to the website coming soon. Also, Tim and Jerry are just about done with the items for the church which should free us up a bit to work on more videos. Well that’s all for now. I’ll keep you posted as we progress!
11/5/2009 – Due to some bad weather last Thursday, Michael was not able to make the drive to our shop. Hopefully we’ll be able to tape our Troubleshooting Monitors With Michael sequel soon. Tim and Jerry have been busy working on kiddie rides for a local church and I am going out of town for my day job so I don’t know if we’ll be able to get a post up next week or not. Rest assured that there will be new content coming in the future regardless of our current busy schedules. As always, let us know what you want to see by sending us an email, leaving us a comment or contacting me on Twitter.
10/26/2009 – After an extend hiatus, we finally decided to get back on the ball and shoot some more videos. I know many of you are big fans of the Troubleshooting Monitors With Michael post so we plan on shooting the sequel this week. This time we will be on location at Michael’s shop. Look forward to this in the coming weeks. Also, we have added a chip in widget to the website for an External Hard Drive. These HD videos are taking up WAY MORE SPACE than the SD videos we were shooting before. My hard drive is getting full fast! Any donations will be greatly appreciated! Stay tuned for more videos and remember to send me your suggestions for videos on Twitter.
10/14/2009 – Well I was finally able to get together with Tim this last weekend. We were at least able to get one video shot that should be going up later this evening. We were not able to shoot the Volume 1 DVD special features so it is still delayed as of now. We also answered all of the comments and questions that were in our queue. Thanks again for your patience on these. I plan on getting together with Tim this weekend as well so hopefully we can get some more filming done. Please send me your suggestions on Twitter for videos!
9/27/2009 – Getting together with Tim has been a real challenge as of late. We’ve both been pretty busy with different events. I’m going to try and get together with him this week to get some filming done. The Volume 1 DVD is pretty much done, I’m just waiting to get together with Tim to do the special features. Still working on a T-Shirt for those who are interested. Also, there are some comments in the queue that have yet to be answered but we should be able to get around to them this week. Thanks for your patience and stay tuned for updates.
9/13/2009 – Due to the rainy weather this weekend, we were unable to shoot any videos. We are actually in the process of putting a Tron arcade machine together pretty much from the ground up. We plan on documenting the complete process on the site. Some of the things that we are going to be doing have already been documented (such as Laminating An Arcade Cabinet). I’m debating whether or not to shoot these again and put them up on the site in their respective categories. Don’t worry! We are still working on the DVD and we might even have a T-Shirt coming soon. Please stay tuned for more information.
8/22/2009 – If you’ve been reading my Twitter then you probably know that I stayed up till 2 am this morning. While the majority of that time was spent registering my game purchases at Club Nintendo, I did manage to do some work on the domain transfer. I actually got it completely working this morning around 11 am. Don’t worry, I did get some sleep in there! Most of the URLs should now redirect to arcaderepairtips.com. I believe the iPhone page is having some trouble but I’ll work on that another time seeing as how I’m the only one that uses it anyway! I’m just glad that this experience is over and next time at least I’ll know what I’m doing!
8/21/2009 – Well, we have a couple of new things to talk about. First off, we do have our first post with an HD video thanks to the generous contributions of some of our fans. I look forward to putting up more videos with our new Flip UltraHD. We have also in the process of moving the site off of the Varcade Entertainment site. I would rather use the arcaderepairtips.com domain especially since we bought it! I also made a lot of progress on the Arcade Repair Tips – Volume 1 DVD. It looks great, however, we still have some bonus features to tape before it’s completed. Please watch updates on these and other projects. You can also follow me on Twitter for the latest updates as they happen.
8/3/2009 – Thankfully, I was able to convert the videos I took with the Creative Vado Hd and post them on the site. Amazon.com refunded me for the Creative Vado HD very promptly. I immediately turned around and bought the Flip UltraHD for $160 from Newegg.com. It should be here today. I guess we’ll see if it is worth the extra $50 $30 over the Vado HD. I’m definitely looking forward to filming some projects in HD this coming weekend.
7/20/2009 – Well, we bought the Creative Vado HD and the thing has been a piece of junk! This is my second one because the first one would not turn on! This one cuts in and out intermittently and the videos will not work with Videowave. I’m going to return this to Amazon and get the Flip Ultra HD for $179. It seems to be worth the extra $50. Hopefully I can get some of the videos I took with the Vado HD converted so we can use them on the site. Wish me luck!
7/7/2009 – Took off the Amazon.com Search Box and added the Chase The Chuckwagon link in it’s place. Also changed the amount needed on the Chip In widget from $200 to $130. I found a Creative Vado HD for $130 and thought I would change the amount to reflect the new price.
6/21/2009 – Added and configured WPtouch iPhone Theme plugin to the site. Now iPhone, Android, and Blackbery storm users can view and navigate the site much easier than having to go to the default site.
